BIG MONEY OUT!
I believe that the only effective way to really get money out of politics is to change attitudes and make a moral case against money buying political power as my Deliberative Model via Civil Assemblies proposes.
I also believe we must address Super PACs. In Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, 558 U.S. 310 (2010), the interpretation of the First Amendment was flawed. But there are many things we should do now:
-
The Securities and Exchange Commission should require publicly traded corporations to disclose their political spending to their shareholders.
-
The Federal Communications Commission should create an online tool for the general public to have information on who is funding political ads.
-
The Federal Election Commission should prohibit super PACs from taking money from secret sources and tighten rules on coordination between candidates and super PACs.
I strongly believe our nation should move towards publicly-funded campaigns for both House and the Senate elections.
